American Anthropologist
The cover of December 2004 issue of the American Anthropologist journal, featuring my design for
Alireza's article about vulgarity in Persian blogs. I did this back in June after Alireza told me about his upcoming article. I didn't get to spend as much time on it as I liked to, but it still made the cover.
Here's the explanation in the inside cover:
ON THE COVER: This image by Pendar Yousefi is a reimagination of the ?vulgarity debate,? a long-running dispute among authors of Iranian weblogs (blogs) over the nature of their online communications and interactions. The debate pitted an?intellectual? class of bloggers against ?nonintellectuals? who were seen as ?vulgarizing? language and culture by being careless in their writing and by recklessly making claims about every serious and intellectual topic.
