Spartan
Looks like a good day today. Eventhough Thursdays usually suck. I have to TA the 3-hour lab and then I have a tiring class from 2 to 4.
Guys, no offence, but undergrads STINK! At least in engineering they do ... I mean, god ... they should hand out free deodorants to these guys ...
I saw Spartan yesterday. Well, some of it anyway. I wanted to see Secret Window but checked some of the ratings and both IMDB and mytelus had rated Spartan better. Of course, not having a TV and not have seen their trailers and not have read the actual reviews meant I had no clue what either of them is about. I only knew they are both thrillers.
So I go in, right off the bat it's evident that this is gonna suck BIG time. I mean, it's about mobs kidnapping American blondes and whoring them in Dubai!!!!!!! As if the Arabs are craving for American blondes!!! Sadly, scores of goreous Russian and east Europian women are queuing to go to Dubai (they make good money), so the idea of kidnapping women and dragging them all the way from America to Dubai is absurd. And who likes Val Kilmer anyway?
But the plot suggested that some of the action might take place in Dubai, and that was the reason I didn't leave the theatre earlier. After a painfully substantial passage of time, they finally go to Dubai. I was expecting to see some of the grand and lavish settings of Dubai, on screen.
Well, it turns out, they didn't even GO to Dubai. They probably shot the scenes in someone's back yard!! And it was PATHETIC. There were street peddlars, people selling vegetables on trollys on the sidewalks ! Small children with Yemeni hats, women with Burqa's that had NO similarity to Emirati burqas, everything was dirty. It had absolutely ZERO resemblance to Dubai.
And the following was the last string, I left the theatre after this:
*in a sleezy hotel room, still in dubai, girl and man in hiding*
*girl tries to grab a smoke from the man*
man: NO!
girl: I want a smoke.
man: No, smell of American tobacco carries well in the desert air.
Well actually I stayed a little more and also got to see the girl get naked and offer sex for the smoke. What do you know? The little American angel they are trying to save from the slave trade is a natural whore!

Ummm undergrad engineers everywhere smell bad, so do computing students and some of the science bunch, especially physicists. Believe me I know, I've had 6 years of them all...yeeuuccckkkk...!!!

lego did i see you at san. flem today? i was there with my bf, some canadian friends and my girl sheyda and she also thinks that we saw you.
one of these days when we see each other at persian places, i'm actually going to suck it up and come say hey.

I know I saw you! But I had to leave early to grab lunch (!! Somehow eating koobideh in front of the ever observing eyes of the Persian hawks wasn't too appealing) and catch my class, so didn't get around to come say hey.
